The Colosseum, Roman Forum & Palatine Hill - Online Tickets
The Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill are all located nearby, and the admission tickets are sold for all three attractions. You don’t have to visit them all in the same day, but I would recommend it, as they are next to each other.
The Colosseum is an ancient arena with a history of almost 2000 years, that was used for gladiator fights and public shows, like animal hunts or executions. This iconic landmark is a must-see attraction and a symbol of Rome, so it’s no surprise that admission tickets to the Colosseum sell out weeks in advance. If you want to explore it, I recommend you buy your admission passes as soon as you have the dates of your trip. You can visit it on your own, or join a guided group, to get a more in-depth presentation of this majestic arena. The Colosseum visit lasts 1 hour, maybe 1 hour and a half, if you visit on your own, and up to three hours if you decide to join a guided group. I am adding the links to several options below:
TIP! After the Colosseum, I recommend you continue the visit with the Palatine Hill and the Roman Forum. Most groups will head to the Roman Forum next, so you can expect queues at the Forum entrance. If that’s the case, and you are visiting on your own, find this entrance and start with the Palatine Hill instead.
The Palatine Hill is one of the seven hills of Rome and it is said to be the place where Romulus and Remus founded Rome. Home to several ancient ruins, Palatine Hill is a beautiful place to escape the summer heat while traveling in time straight to ancient Rome.
The Roman Forum, located at the base of the Palatine Hill, was once the center of political and social life in ancient Rome. Today, the ruins of ancient temples, government buildings, and markets allow you to discover the daily life of the ancient Romans.
Castel Sant'Angelo - Online Tickets
The Castel Sant’Angelo in Rome is an impressive structure that’s nearly 1,900 years old. Initially built as a mausoleum for Emperor Hadrian, it has since served as a fortress, a prison, and a palace.
The visit to Castel Sant’Angelo offers a captivating journey through time and the most stunning panoramic views of Rome from its rooftop terrace. There is also a restaurant up there, with spectacular views of Vatican City, and delicious cocktails.
You need a ticket to visit the castle, which I recommend you buy in advance, so you can skip the lines at the entrance. You can visit it on your own, or join a guided group. Choose one of the options below:
The Vatican Museums - Online Tickets
On your trip to the Eternal City, I strongly recommend you save a day for the Vatican. It truly is an unforgettable experience!
A must-visit destination for anyone traveling to Rome, the Vatican Museums are one of the largest, busiest, and most spectacular museum complexes in the world.
Here, you’ll see an incredible collection of art, culture, and invaluable treasures from throughout the centuries.
From the breathtaking Sistine Chapel and its famous ceiling painted by Michelangelo to the Gallery of Maps and the Raphael Rooms, there is simply so much to see and explore here.
It is a brilliant experience, so it’s no surprise that tickets to the Vatican Museums sell out weeks in advance. Unless you want to wait for hours in the famous Vatican queues, I recommend you book your tickets as soon as you have the dates of your trip. The tickets on the Vatican Museums official website sell out first, so if you don’t find any available tickets, check out more options below:
Galleria Borghese - Online Tickets
Galleria Borghese is one of the most amazing art museums I’ve ever visited. This famous museum in Rome is home to an impressive collection of classical sculptures, paintings, and decorative arts, all housed within a beautiful 17th-century villa. Some of the highlights of the collection include works by Caravaggio, Bernini, and Raphael, among others. I highly recommend you buy tickets in advance, as they don’t allow many visitors inside the museum, which means admission tickets are rare and they sell out fast.
The Pantheon - Online Tickets
On your trip to Rome, make sure to check out the Pantheon. It’s a stunning ancient temple that’s stood the test of time and remains one of the most impressive architectural wonders in the world. The interior is breathtaking, with its massive dome and intricate details. Since the summer of 2023, admission to the Pantheon is no longer free, so you will have to buy tickets. Preferably in advance, as it’s one of the main attractions in Rome.
The Capitoline Museums - Online Tickets
Located on the Capitoline Hill, these museums are home to an incredible collection of art and artifacts from ancient Rome. From stunning classical sculptures to intricate mosaics and frescoes, there’s something for everyone to admire. Plus, the museums themselves are housed in gorgeous buildings designed by Michelangelo himself. The famous original statue of the she-wolf is housed at the Capitoline Museums.
